Brembo (STi) caliper idiocy

I’ll spare you the long sting off comments after this got posted. Basically people were telling the poster that he can do it himself(which is true) and that buying a whole new brembo caliper would be a massive waste of money.

You can go to any machine shop and they will happily take care of the snapped bleeder screw for $20 or a case of beer and you can be sure that your expensive Sti brembo calipers aren’t going to be ruined. Well besides you fucking them up yourself.

Now let’s look at the picture of the rear Brembo the OP posted. Hmmm doesn’t that brake rotor look a little small? (The answer is yes.)  Always double check part numbers even when you are buying from the OEM/Subaru. Triple check whenever you buy from an aftermarket supplier. It’s very easy to get a WRX sized brake rotor instead of the correct STi Brembo sized brake rotor.

Broken STi: Let’s drive 19 hours to look at a broken Subaru

First of all who drives eight hours one way to see a broken Subaru STi? Driving that far to buy a common car like a 2006 Subaru WRX Sti is just silly without asking for 20+ pictures. This guy probably didn’t even tell the owner how far they were traveling in the first place.Of course this gets a lot better when the seller of the car comes and posts in the thread, because the owner of the STi is even a bigger idiot. So now it is time to diagnosis this shit show.

Considering all the kid did in the buyers opinion was waste his time the buyer should consider it a lesson learned on driving half way across the country to buy a broken Subaru STi.

 

Of course the comments come out of the woodwork.

So it looks like the seller and buyer originally agreed upon 12.9k and then the buyer offered 10k after seeing the STi in person. The owner declined. No where does the buyer say he told the seller how far he is traveling.

Well who the fuck has a motor that has 13k into it and not decide to part out the engine? With that much money the long block must be worth some cash along with the turbo and supporting mods on the STi. Time to call bullshit on the owner. The 13k if it ever happened as probably including the cost of the installation of everything from a shop that does Subaru STi’s.

 

So what’s the lesson here for everyone? Don’t drive across the country to buy a STi that you know if very very broken in the first place. There is such a thing called Caveat emptor or “buyer beware” for those that don’t know Latin. If you attempt to buy from a private buyer don’t expect the car to be in the best condition no matter what the seller says.

Lesson:

Don’t go 19 hours to buy a car from a kid with a Monster Energy Drink flat bill hat on, because he is probably a fucking moron. 

Nothing like telling everyone in the world that you are STI positive.

 

Why would anyone think it would be a good idea telling everyone in the world that you are positive for a STI.

I’m just really embarrassed to own a Subaru Impreza WRX STi at this point. Anyone that gets the joke would think it’s dumb anyways.

Don’t wet sand a carbon fiber hood.

This guy had a bright idea of trying to sand his carbon fiber hood on his Subaru. Body work should sometimes be left to a professional.  Especially if you want to wet sand carbon fiber. It’s extremely dangerous if you don’t wear the proper PPE. All of the small particles can cause extensive damage to your lungs.

 

With these cheaper carbon fiber hoods once the clear coat is this damaged and down to the carbon fiber it’s safer for your health to have a professional look it to determine if it’s salvageable or not.[amazon template=image&asin=Subaru][amazon template=image&asin=subaruidiots-20]

Subaru,Turbos, Blow off valves, and You

When someone first buys a turbo Subaru they are excited to modify their new toy. Often they’ll buy a exhaust, a intake, and a aftermarket blow off valve that replaces the factory BPV. Unknown to them Subaru’s often need to be tuned after even a little change like installing a intake or in this case installing a blow off valve.

If this guy took all of two seconds to type into google”Subaru blow off valve” he could have had all the answers he ever needed. Message boards like IWSTI or Nasioc have extensive stickied threads on this exact topic from people who are experts with turbo subarus.

Now he has to deal with people trolling him and people that are as clueless as he is. After a week or two he’ll probably ignore all advice and install it anyways. Two weeks after that he’ll be asking why he engine is knocking. Said person will complain that he bought this car with a loan and doesn’t have any money to get a new engine nor has the skills to build his own.
